After bouncing over two co-workers, the ball was caught by a Canadian – Phil Ozersky who earned 30,000 a year. The cardinals requested Phil for the ball and in return, he would get a signed jersey, ball and bat, but Phil wanted to meet Mark McGwire. To which he refused. Three months later Phil Ozersky sold the ball to Todd McFarlene a comic and toy maker for 3.05 million dollars.
Honus Wagner’s Baseball Card
Considered the epitome of baseball cards the Honus Wagner exceeded many critics’ minds by selling at 2.1 million dollars. The American Tobacco Company produced cards belonging to Honus Wagner without his approval. On realizing, he had the company recall them. It is currently thought that there are only less than 50 cards in the market. This has made the price skyrocket since the demand is high but the supply is low.
Babe Ruth’s Bat
The Great Bambino appears in almost every memorabilia because of his enormous achievements in the world of Baseball. On the 28th April of 1923, Babe Ruth made his first homerun against the Boston Red Sox. Later, Babe Ruth awarded a newspaper firm – the Los Angeles Evening Herald. The firm later supported a High School tournament in which Victor Orswatti won the hitting contest. Upon his death in 1980, Victor gave the bat to his caretaker. In 2004, 24 years later after Victor Orswatti’s death, the caretaker gave the bat to SCP to auction. The bat sold for 1.265 million dollars. Babe Ruth had inscribed the following words on the bat “To the Boy Home Run King of Los Angeles ‘Babe’ Ruth, N.Y. May 7, 1923.”
